Hi ,
Some nights I can't fall asleep. That's the time when I just let my mind roam. And it becomes so clear how little control we have of the mind. It's a mechanical process cause the brain keeps churning.
Last night, for a split second something -a thought- crossed my
mind and in an instance I felt the urge to get up and do something. Lucky I caught it and let it go,
Moments later I tried to remember what the thought was and I couldn't. And I still don't remember as I'm writing this piece.
It was so revealing cause only minutes later I was so compelled by the thought (to the point that I almost jumped out of bed).
What does this tell you?
Lots of
your impulses and urges have no significance whatsoever cause in the heat of the moment you are so totally duped by your thought(s). And obviously whatever it was doesn't really matter.
How many of you live life this way? Being thrown from one thought/urge to another like a monkey jumping from one branch to the next? Then you make a mountain of a molehill? Or even a problem out of thin air when there is no real problem
whatsoever?
Real problems are, for instance, your home is on fire and you gotta do something about it.
Or your pets are sick and you need to take them to the vet. Or your kids are starving cause there's nothing to eat at home.
This is why many of you are so ridden with anxiety for no good reason. Simply because you aren't aware of your thoughts and are duped by them. You believe every thought you
think.
When you are an aware person, any friction you feel from the I-thoughts will be felt the first instances they surface like I did last night. Cause you are not lost in the identification of the I-thoughts (that makes "you," your ego or your conception of self) you are able to nip it in the bud.
Eventually your mind will naturally shy away from the I-thoughts cause when you know fire burns, you will naturally stop
touching it. It's the same thing with the mind. You know the untamed I-thoughts will hurt you so you just stay away from them. That is how your mind becomes quiet without any effort. You become a deliberate thinker, instead of an obsessive willy-nilly one. Your mind is your tool and you are the master. This is life without resistance. This, though, is
beyond comprehension to those who are still lost in the identification with the mind, who are still dwelling in that painful egoic consciousness reek with fear, conflicts, separation and suffering.
A quiet mind is the by-product of understanding that the mind is impersonal. Till you get that intuitively it will never be quiet. Till you can take a distance between you and your mind, you will always be lost in identification with the mind hence my program Journey Inward is so mighty important cause it heavily focuses on this.
