And talking about Valentine's Day, how was yours?
Hopefully not too shabby. Joe took me to
a mediterranean dinner on Valentine's Day. I'm personally not too big on anniversaries or holidays but it's clear to me how the V day is really made obligatory to men in the West (especially in the US). Cause perhaps like Joe, most guys don't feel particular affinity for this day yet they know how failing to
subscribe to societal expectations will get them kicked out of their women's good graces.
So they do it for their women, some grudgingly or uninspiredly.
I joked with him since he said he felt burned out by this fake holiday that all the people here are burned out men who felt obligated to pull this "stunt" and their old ladies. And we were having fun checking on which couples were new and which were miserable.
Mind you I never mentioned it to him ever yet he always felt the pressure year after year as men in this culture are so deeply conditioned to fulfill women's expectations of the day (just as everyone for Mother's Day).
He asked me that I didn't seem to care as much as other women about this day (he had to remind me at least 3 times that Friday would be Valentine's Day) and I said it didn't break or make me (didn't do anything for me emotionally really) but I appreciated it so please don't stop doing what he was doing lol.. I said I liked that he insisted we did something that night (when I offered we could do the dinner the next day/today as well).
The lesson is
for you to care less, you express your preference but you are also not terribly bothered by it. That way your man knows how to make you
happier (cause you're already happy and he'll be more than happy to make you even more happy)
.
If you make it a huge obligation you'll perhaps end up like a couple next to us who weren't even smiling at each other.

I'm scared of hospitals, and my anxiety was so bad that I struggled to leave the house for years, so I ate and put on so much weight, I then got depressed about being fat then I used to eat more to mask the depression so it became a vicious circle. The doctor tried to get me to take lots of medication.
I was alive but not living.
